Happy Father's Day!

Josh had a great Father's Day this year. He woke up to breakfast and tea with his family, gifts from Van (grill equipment - very All-American-Dad stuff) and then we all enjoyed a hike up along Ceran St. Vrain trail, just off of the Peak-to-Peak Hwy.

It was a perfect morning for a hike, too. It was in the low 70s and mostly sunny, but the trail had lots of tree shade so we were quite comfortable. Maggie played in the St. Vrain river that ran along the trail in a few places. The wild flowers are still out in abundance - unheard of for this late in the season here! My mission was to find the calypso orchid on our hike... success! (see picture below) We also saw li'l white Rocky Mountain violets, purple larkspur (picture), columbine and wild strawberry flowers. - it was a great family-friendly trail and we will most definitely do it again.

We also went to the zoo this weekend. This trip was very different with Van from his first trip there when he was only 5mo old - ha ha! He really enjoyed seeing all the animals, especially the fish and reptiles. When he saw the hyenas he made the sign for "dog" and when he saw the fish swimming in their tanks he would make the sign for "fish." The elephants were a big hit, too. Josh took him on the carousel... which was not a big hit. Van had a very concerned, grave face on for the ride. He seemed fine going around, it was the up-and-down that didn't sit well with him. Seeing all the other kids clamoring to get on, I'm sure it's something he'll grow into.
