Camping at Lake Pueblo

We had a great weekend camping at Lake Pueblo with friends! 5 dogs, 5 kiddos, 4 dads, 4 mommas (3 of which are pregnant)... and a partridge in a pear tree.
Saturday we met for bagels and made a caravan down to the lake, just west of Pueblo. Boulder was drizzly and gray, which gave everyone serious misgivings about the success of our trip. But while the clouds stayed, the rain seemed to dissipate as we drove south.
Upon arriving everyone set up their tents... twice. The guys thought we could set up in a nice clearing a little ways away from our actual sites... but after getting the tents up, found they couldn't stake them due to a layer of rock covering the area about 2" down. So the tents were moved back to the sites, closer to the cars and picnic tables. :-)
Each family took care of different meals, and it must be said that this is a group of GREAT cooks! All the food was awesome! Of course the kids' favorite part was toasting marshmallows and making s'mores. (Van and Josh sharing one above)
The next day we had a big breakfast and headed over to Royal Gorge! The kids got to ride a big carousel, take the incline down to the bottom of gorge and we drove across the world's highest suspension bridge. We took off after a delicious picnic lunch and headed home, the other families stuck it out for one more night though.
It was such a successful trip, despite gray, chilly weather, that we're talking about another one before the summer's out! Click HERE for pictures from our weekend.
