Beaver Creek's Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival, '13

A 3oz pour... refilled as much as ya want!
For Memorial Day weekend our friends, The Bayons and The Avants, and we traveled up to Beaver Creek for their "Blues, Brews & BBQ" festival.  We all went last year and just had a blast, and this year was just as fun!

We stayed in the Arrowhead community, just up the road from Beaver Creek Resort.  It had a great park for the kids, the apartment we had was wonderful with a nice kitchen and plenty of space for the three families.  Shortly after arriving Josh and Chris headed off for a 3 o'clock tee time at the Beaver Creek Resort Golf Club.  Again, this is where they played last year, and they loved it!  They were both pretty stoked to be able to go again.  Chris and I  hung out at the apartment, unpacked, took the boys to the park and did the whole "domestic goddess" thing that we do.  Scott, Christy and their little girl, Riley, arrived later that night, and after a bit of chit-chat and good-nights we were SO ready to hit the hay!

Saturday we had a good breakfast, lounged a little and headed over to the festival!  Oh my goodness, what a spread!  The wonderful smell of natural mesquite & hickory filled the air before we could ever see the food stands.  We gave the whole village a walk around and settled at a table beside the blues stage (much to Van's dismay) and planted the kids while the adults took turns wandering off to hunt and gather.  Josh came back with a melt-in-your-mouth brisket sandwich, I brought a plate full of honey-chipotle smoked wings with a home made ranch dip back, as well as a pulled-pork street-style taco.  Others brought ribs, jalapeno poppers and fried pickles to the table.  All of it was just fabulous!

Before we got too stuffed, we split up:  the big boys made their way into the beer tents and the moms & kids checked out the rest of the festival.  We played corn-hole, decorated mini beer mugs, dominated the bouncy barn for a bit and then Van and Brody took turns riding the mechanical bull!  We found a gelato shop to take a much-needed ice cream break in and indulged in a cup or two.  After a while we met up with the dads (I got to try a couple beers - yum!) and the moms & kiddos headed home.

Josh, Scott and Chris called an hour or two later to be picked up and the adults had a lovely evening playing cards, munching a few appetizers thrown together and just enjoying the company (the kids had passed out quick!).

Sunday morning we were honestly still full from the day before.  Even the kids weren't clamoring for breakfast as always.  It was time to pack up and head home.  It was such a great weekend - Thank you Bayons and Avants!  Can't wait to continue the tradition next year! (maybe with a little spa time for the mommas, hm?)
