It was a Grand Time in Ol' Grand Junction!

The boys and I took the weekend and drove out to visit Kurt & Lindsay at their house in Grand Junction.  They just moved to Colorado in September of last year, but were told they'll have to relocate very soon, so our window of opportunity to go out and have some fun in Mesa County was dwindling.  (The good news about the relocation is that they will be able to stay in Colorado AND they'll be much closer to us and The Weagraffs! But more on that another time....)  So Friday we packed up the car, hugged Maggie goodbye and drove over the mountains to Grand Junction (about a 4 1/2 hour drive).

Saturday we did a big breakfast at home and headed out to drive through Colorado National Monument Park.  It's an amazing series of canyons with huge towers of eroded rock in a myriad of colors.  Even though it was cold and a little rainy it was so beautiful to see.  We came out of the park in Fruita - a small town most noted for it's amazing mountain biking community, but also for dinosaurs.  Well, the boys were just all a-flutter at the prospect of the Fruita Dinosaur Journey Museum!  After a great patio lunch of pizza at The Hot Tomato, we checked it out.  So much fun!  Lots of bones, casts, animatronics and interactive exhibits.  It wasn't big by any means, but the boys were super cheesed!  Bonus:  Lindsay finally found out where the Dinosaur Truck she sees around lives!

Grand Junction & Fruita with Kurt & Lindsay
That night Kurt whipped up a killer batch of his homemade bbq sauce and smoked a chicken and a rack of ribs he'd had sitting in a rub in the fridge.  OH!  Such YUM!  The boys played with Marty (the resident cat) and were mesmerized by the classic Nintendo games while dinner was prepped, and we blew them away with more classics later:  we watched Goonies after dinner.  They LOVED it!  What's not to love right?  Pirates, treasure, car chases, water slides and Slough.

Sunday we went to Dream Cafe for a lovely breakfast, then said good-bye and the boys and I headed back east.  It was such a wonderful, wonderful weekend.  Neither Van nor Wesley wanted to leave.  They love Kurt & Linds so much!  Having lived so far from family for so long it makes me absolutely overjoyed to have these two here in 'Rado, making lots of memories with the boys.
