Movie reviews

We recently saw some "must see" movies...finally:

Most recently was George Clooney's big movie Syriana.
It was confusing and a bit hard to follow, but we got the gist of it all. In the end we came to the same conclusion: Americans are blind, and the big oil industry is very happy to keep us that way. We also looked at each other afterwards and thought the same thing: let's re-evaluate buying that Subaru Forester this winter. Maybe we'll pump a little extra money into a hybrid.
Another flick we just saw that left us all a twitter was The Constant Gardener. Not sure why, but I really thought this was going to be something akin to Remains of the Day... soooooooo not even close! Rachel Weiss totally deserved her Oscar for that. She was wonderful, as was her leading man, Ralph Fienns. Its one of those movies that makes you angry and sad at the same time. Its saving grace, or my blood pressure's rather, is that it is above all a love story. There is a glaring message in the main plot line ("drug companies are bad, bad, bad") but its more to do with the relationship between a man and his wife.
And lastly was Good Night and Good Luck. S & V just raved about this when it came out, and as we hold their opinion in such high regard we just had to see it. It was very well done and rightfully a "must see," but to a couple who have no idea what that kind of fear is like it was hard to understand the seriousness of the actions taken and the culture of the time. There was a generational gap there.

All very worth the rent and also worth a recommendation.
