It Was a Very Happy Holiday Season in 2013

We had lots of "firsts" to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!  My brother, Kurtis, and his girlfriend, Lindsay, were able to join us this year.  They just moved to Colorado from Pennsylvania and this was their first holiday away from home.  We did the very best we could to make them feel warm and fuzzy.  The Weagraffs joined us, too, and while Ainsley didn't partake in the food part of her first Thanksgiving feast, she loved sitting at the table and being part of the conversation.  Also, Josh's mom, Lu (a.k.a. Gigi), has relocated to Colorado, and we were so blessed to have her with us this year.  Everyone brought fantastic dishes to share up and down the table, and faces hurt from so much laughing... as it should be.

The following weekend we joined our friends, The Bayons, up in Winter Park to hunt down the perfect Christmas tree for the boys.  There were snowballs, sled riding, hot chocolate, cookies and, best of all, good friends.  Van and Wes couldn't wait to decorate when we got home!  There was even a long popcorn string waiting, a la Van & Mom.  The morning after the boys' tree was up, our Elf on the Shelf, George, arrived.  He brought a friend for Wesley!  Wes named him Jack, and those two elves had lots of fun this season making messes and getting into mischief around the house.  We picked out the big, family tree to go upstairs later in December.  Van found it - it was perfect!  He has a good eye!

While Santa is much anticipated this time of year, there is absolute giddiness at the prospect of seeing Nana & PopPop!  The boys were so excited to do Flips with Nana, and wrestle with PopPop!   They, the Weagraffs and Kurt & Lindsay came to our place on Christmas Eve where we enjoyed a classic family dinner around a table filled with holiday comfort foods.  After some Rudolf stop-motion animation the boys were off to "... snuggle in their beds with visions of sugar plums..."

Christmas morning was a ton of fun as always!  The boys did a very good job taking turns opening gifts and were so, so happy with all their gifts!  Later that morning we joined the rest of the family at Kaity's for a big breakfast and more gift giving.  The funniest gifts were the matching Duck Dynasty t-shirts for Nana & PopPop - oh my!  Even Maggie & Maeby enjoyed some holiday treats.  Everyone had a great time, and were all very thankful for the thoughtfulness of our family.
