Josh goes to Denmark
Well, just as soon as we settled back into our post-Hawaii life Josh's office tells him they need him to train their newly acquired company's employees... in Denmark... with only a week and a half notice! This may be normal to seasoned business travelers, but to us its very short notice.
First problem: his passport expired in August and even expediting procedures would be too slow. He ran to Denver to get it renewed just in the nick of time! Lesson: anything can be done quickly for the right amount of money. $$$
Second issue: he'll be gone for three weeks and there's no way I can visit. Okay, so this isn't a tragedy per se, but we'd known this trip was a possibility, and if was to be next year as anticipated we'd planned on me joining him. Sadly, it is not to be. Ticket prices were a little steep for a second get-away trip this year. Josh did promise to bring me back some pickled herring though, so I've got that going for me.
Third challenge: he needed to learn a little Danish. Cd's from the library got him started. Its not an easy language! When he boarded the plane I think he was able to say "Hello" "Do you speak English" and "Thank you" in Denmark's native tongue. From what everyone has been telling him, most of the country's residents do indeed speak English, so he needn't worry.
So, Josh left this morning. M & S gave him a NY Times electronic Sudoku game for his journey. He was very siked, as he's become just as much of an addict as me for the little time-killer. He goes directly from Denver to Frankfurt, then has a long layover before going on to Denmark, but should be at the hotel by Monday evening.
He'll be back before I know it!... or so he told me when he left today. The kitties and I are going to hold down the fort as best we can (lots of chick flicks will be watched and the bed will stay made). He returns to us just in time to see his family arrive for Thanksgiving. He'll be welcomed home with open arms and paws.
