Super Van is 6 years old!

Happy Birthday dear Vaaaaaaaan!  Happy birthday to you!

Well... We did it.  One more year.  Van is 6 years old!  Being 5 seemed to flit right by.  He's such a young man sometimes.... other times he's very good at being 6.  *wink*

We celebrated his birthday, Friday, after school.  Uncle Kurt & Lindsay took him and Wes to play mini golf, ride go-carts and play in the arcade at Gateway Fun Center in Boulder (where he had his party last year).  The boys had a blast and it gave Aunt Kaity and I time to put the finishing sweet touches on his party treats.

Saturday we had the big party with all his friends - Super Hero themed!  All the kids arrived dressed as their favorite super heroes - Van was Iron Man and Wesley was Spider Man (Dad & Mom wore Mr Incredible and Green Lantern tees respectively).  They played at the playground near our pavilion at Tom Watson Park in Boulder while the big people set up a grand hot dog bar, decorations and a couple games.  The Super Man bounce house arrived around this time as well!

The bounce house was a HUGE hit!  Holy cow.  I was able to coax them out for a couple games - one involved balloon "bad guys" they had to take down in teams with Silly String.  Awesome!  And the other was a kryptonite hunt - Lex Luthor had stolen some of Super Man's powers and wrapped them in kryptonite.  Our heroes had to find the powers and unwrap them!  (tic tacs) Invisibility Capsules, Xray Vision Vitamins and Super Strength Pills, as well as a few Super Blow Pops for fun!

The other time they voluntarily got out of the bounce house was to eat.  Josh grilled dogs and brats and we had a spread of almost every hot dog topping we could think of (with veggie cups on the side to make it look healthy)!  Cupcakes followed and chocolate dipped strawberries.

Van came up to me and said, "This is the best birthday ever mom!"  That made all the planning, the stress and the prep time worth it.  He's growing into such a wonderful little man.  Josh and I are proud of him every day.

Special thank yous to Kaity, Abe & Ainsley, to Kurt & Lindsay and to Gigi for helping so much the day of the event - setting up, tearing down and helping this momma thru the crazies.  You all are the best family a girl could have!
