Giving Thanks

Nana and PopPop were here for Thanksgiving this year, so we had even more to be thankful for!

We offered to host the holiday not only because I enjoy it but so Josh could smoke a turkey in the BGE.  (smile!)  We brined and roasted a second turkey, too.  A smoked turkey won't give you the juices needed for perfect gravy... so we had to roast one, too!  We put out just light appetizers - salami, prosciutto, cheeses, crackers, fruit - but it was just the right amount.

Kaity and I decorated and set the tables, and Nana made piles of mashed potatoes and took charge of that oh-so-important gravy.  Linds and Kurt brought some yummy sides, as well as Kaity and Abe.  When everything was ready we had green beans, brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, turkey, turkey and more turkey!  Such a glorious holiday!!

Dessert had been prepped the day before by Van, Wes and Ainsley with Nana and Lindsay - a super yummy turkey cookie!  Linds made a turkey out of what was a bunny mold.  It looked great!  The boys and their cousin had a great time taking turns decorating parts of the bird, and Nana came in to make the head.  There were lots of scraps to test and sample, which the best part, right?!

In the end everyone was a little overly full and quite happy.  We were able to send everyone home with lots of leftovers (remember, 2 turkeys).  There will be stock made from the carcasses and from that the best soups and bolognese sauce ever!  It's the holiday that just keeps on giving... and we are truly thankful for every minute of it.
