9 years old!
Happy Birthday, Van!! Our oldest turned another year older - he turned 9 this year.
He's had some pretty sweet parties in the past! This year he wanted to keep it simple - just a movie, cake and a few friends for a sleepover. Sure! Dad took 'em to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 on opening night!! There was popcorn, candy and 5 super stoked dudes (Wesley didn't join for the movie - too young).
When they came home there was a homemade blue cake with cream cheese frosting and sprinkles, as requested. Not gonna lie: I may have been a little stressed over the cake, as simple as it was. There were tears, phone calls to cake expert Kait, and threats of running out to get a grocery store cake. In the end it was fine. Van loved it, and that's all that matters.
After sugar galore they played video games for a while, and set up sleeping bags on inflatable pool floaties in the living room downstairs. Each guy got a flash light and glow sticks. We said good night... a few times. I think they got to sleep around 2am or so. A couple fell asleep sooner. It was a little "Lord of the Flies" I think, but everyone had a great time.
In the a.m. there were mini cereal boxes and bagels for breakfast, and move video games. Minecraft downstairs and a variety of WiiU games upstairs. Each kid found his niche.
I'm guessing there were naps later that day at home and maybe some early bed times. Van loved all of it... even the wonky cake.
