Easter Travels

A-traveling we will go. And travel we did!

This Easter season was full of adventure for this family! It started the weekend before Easter when we all piled in the car, Maggie included, and drove down to The Ranch. It was Wesley's first time out of Colorado, on a road trip and to The Ranch... as well as a lot of other firsts! He did very well on the 15-hour drive, as did Van. The boys were such troopers! Van was a super traveler, even when his dvd player broke only a few hours into the journey. He had Woody & Buzz to keep him company (and Mom packed plenty of snacks, drinks and books to divert boredom). Although we left the trunk space cleared for Maggie to lie down in, she chose to spend the majority of the drive nestled between the boys in the back seat. After leaving Longmont at 4:30 a.m. we arrived at The Ranch to a wonderful welcome by the rest of the family around 8:30 p.m.

We spent 5 days at The Ranch together with all the Redmore clan. Van got to spend some quality time with his big cousin, Ahir, and just LOVED playing with him! Anything Ahir did, Van was hot on his heels. And Ahir was a fantastic big cousin, being very patient and willing to include Van in what he was doing. Moms and Dads of both kids were very cheezed at the connection the boys made!

We celebrated Easter with an egg hunt in the front yard, as well as with baskets full of goodies for the boys! Between the chocolate rabbit, Cadbury Creme Eggs and peanut butter eggs Van found the Jelly Belly beans to be his favorite treat... and it's about all he ate that day. Rather than the traditional ham dinner, we opted for a bar-b-que feast from our favorite pit, Cooper's. One word: yum!!

Josh and I and the boys headed to San Antonio one afternoon, with Wendy & Grampa Gary, to explore the River Walk and the Alamo. It was too hot to really enjoy walking around the Alamo, but the River Walk was gorgeous and shady!

On Thursday it was time for Wesley & Mom to depart for PA - his first plane ride! He did very well - no crying at all on the two flights through Washington into Pittsburgh. The two of us spent 4 days in Titusville to throw a bridal shower for Kaity. It was gorgeous (if I do say so myself) with everything in pink and orange. The food was great, the games were super cute and everyone had a really good time! Wes was such a good sport letting all the great-aunts and friends love on him (much to Mom's delight to be baby-free for a little bit). The rest of the weekend was pretty rainy, but we got to spend some good quality time for a short while with Nana & PopPop - both of whom actually babysat a couple times! In short increments, of course.

Monday brought good-byes once again, but we'll see each other soon for the big wedding, so it wasn't so teary. Wesley did well, but not as well as his first flights, on the way home. The pressure got to his ears a little on the way down into Chicago. It was my first time being "that" mom... and I never want to be her again! Coming down into Denver he was great! Slept through the whole thing - bless his little heart. Josh, Van and Maggie drove back from Texas alone Saturday, and from what I hear it went rather well. They made good time and Van didn't give Dad too hard a time.

It seemed like a very long 10 days toward the end, and everyone was glad to be back home together Monday night. I couldn't hug Van enough - I really missed the little bugger! Josh was so happy to hold Wes again, and I'm sure the feeling was mutual.
